In a press release, the California-based firm said that under the agreement, Alibaba Cloud will provide archival node services and cloud infrastructure services for validators of Sui's tesnet. Mysten Labs added that both parties will also explore cooperation opportunities in the e-commerce and payments sectors, however, no details were given about that initiative.
Mysten Labs Co-Founder, Evan Cheng, said that Alibaba Cloud has demonstrated a "strong commitment to facilitating the growth of Web3 with its trusted and secure cloud infrastructure."
The deal comes shortly after Tencent Cloud, another Chinese cloud provider, also included Sui in its blockchain portfolio. In addition to Sui, Tencent also started supporting blockchain nodes for Ankr, Avalanche and Scroll.
Sui is a permissionless Layer-1 blockchain based on the Proof-of-Stake algorithm with support for smart contracts and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The network is yet to have mainnet, although no timeframe was provided for its launch.
