Yuga Labs Reveals Exclusive NFT Collection for Bitcoin Blockchain

The developer of the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club collection Yuga Labs is bringing a new set of digital collectibles this time to the Bitcoin blockchain.

In a blog post, the firm said the so-called TwelveFold collection consists of 12 art system localized around a 12x12 grid, which represents a "visual allegory for the cartography of data on the Bitcoin blockchain." Details about timing and the auction mechanics remain undisclosed, but the firm plans to give more information about the collection in the coming week.

In January 2023, the Bitcoin blockchain with the help of the Ordinals protocol started supporting an alternative to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) stored on satoshis, the smallest denomination of bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin).

By February, the craze around Bitcoin-based NFTs was so huge that the average block size had increased from a stable 1.5-2.0 MB up to 3.0-3.5 MB, while arbitrary data in the form of images can take even up to a size limit of 4 MB.

Bitcoin supporters think NFTs are some form of an "attack on the network" as users massively loaded the blockchain with copies of Ethereum-based NFT collections such as CryptoPunks and pixelated Rocks, audio files and other objects.
