In a commentary to the media, Haswell said she's the "only lawyer at the moment" at MoonPay. She added that the company plans to hire between seven and 20 people to build a legal team. Haswell joined Blockchain.com in 2021. Prior to joining the crypto business, she held senior lawyer roles at Lime and Uber Technologies. For MoonPay, this is the first in-house lawyer hire.
In January this year, multiple reports said that Blockchain.com laid off 28% of workforce (110 jobs) as the company wants to balance product offerings with demand better.
A spokesperson for Blockchain.com said the crypto ecosystem is facing "significant headwinds as its course corrects from the challenges of the last year." To weather the difficulties, Blockchain.com decided to reduce operating costs and headcount, the spokesperson added.
