BitMEX CEO Alexander Höptner Steps Down: Report

Alexander Höptner, the head of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX, has stepped down as its Chief Executive, The Block reports, citing a spokesperson for the exchange.

As of press time, BitMEX made no official statements regarding the matter. It is unclear, why Höptner decided to leave the company, having spent on his role two years. A spokesperson for BitMEX said that Stephan Lutz will replace Höptner as Interim CEO.

Lutz said in a commentary to media that he "will make sure that BitMex continues to deliver great, innovative crypto trading products and a secure and stable trading environment for our clients."

Höptner joined BitMEX in January 2021, after Co-Founder and CEO Arthur Hayes had to leave the company due to lawsuits from the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and Department of Justice.
