The US Department of Justice has just filed a lawsuit against the founder of cryptocurrency mixer Helix, Larry Dean Harmon, for failing to pay a $60 million fine.

He was reportedly arrested in February 2020 in the United States for allegedly laundering more than $300 million through dark web marketplaces Abraxas, Agora, Hansa, Hydra and Wall Street Market.

He was fined $60 million by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network in October, which he failed to pay.

A US federal court has recognized BTC as money in this case. In addition, the Department of Justice has also for the first time criminalized the mixing of cryptocurrencies.

Harmon pleaded guilty in August last year to laundering more than $300 million through Helix between 2014 and 2017. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
