US cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has banned Russian users from registering accounts. In addition, the platform has also limited "Russian-based" accounts.

According to the company, the measure is temporary, but it has stressed that they "cannot guarantee anything."

A representative of the company's support service has explained existing Russian customers can deposit and withdraw cryptocurrencies; the allowed amount of transactions depends on the KYC level. These also have the possibility to exchange digital assets.

At the same time, Russian users have been banned from conducting transactions related to the deposit/withdrawal of fiat money and the purchase of digital assets with traditional money.

Kraken has stressed the measures are related to the European Union's sanctions policy, which "at the moment does not require the freezing of Russian assets."
