Albania Arrests Founder of Turkish Crypto Exchange Thodex

Faruk Fatih Özer, the head of Turkish cryptocurrency exchange Thodex, has been arrested in Vlorë, Albania after he had left customers of the notorious exchange without access to their funds.

According to the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, the Interpol has initiated his extradition to Turkey, however, it is unclear for how long the whole process would take. Turkish authorities have not provided other details regarding Özer.

Turkish crypto exchange Thodex stopped operating in April 2021, saying it had to cease operations for a few days to attract external investments. However, no other announcements have been made so far as Faruk Fatih Özer went to Albania, leaving over 390,000 costumers with no access to their funds.

In Turkey, Özer and other executives of the exchange are facing a cumulative 40,564 years in jail.
