The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has just opened an investigation into Coinbase Global because the platform may have provided access to trade digital assets that could be considered securities for US residents, Bloomberg has reported citing sources familiar with the situation.
According to them, the SEC has started to monitor Coinbase's activities as the exchange expands the amount of tokens its customers can trade.

In addition, on July 21, the US Department of Justice announced the arrest of former Coinbase product manager Ishan Wahi, who has been charged with insider trading fraud.
Investigators believe he used confidential information about upcoming digital asset listings on the platform to make profitable transactions.
