The project said in a tweet announcement that the process itself will be done via Axelar Network, a decentralized application for cross-chain communication.
The first token that users can now swap between ecosystems is polkadot's DOT. Later, the Moonbeam team plans to make the platform as a "gateway for Substrate-based tokens from other chains to access the Cosmos ecosystem through Osmosis."
Besides cross-chain swaps, with Axelar's general message passing function, smart contracts can also communicate with each other across chains. Moonbeam says the update allows developers to build cross-chain connected applications on Moonbeam that can tap into functionality from Polkadot, Ethereum, Avalanche, Cosmos, or other blockchain network.
