Crypto exchange Bitstamp has just announced it intends to charge a monthly fee to some inactive account holders.

According to the platform's blog post, the "inactivity fee" will be introduced from August 1 and will amount to €10 per month.

This will be applied to customers with an account balance of less than €200 who have not traded, deposited or withdrawn assets on Bitstamp in a year.

To avoid additional charges, the exchange has said they can buy or sell $25, euros or pounds worth of cryptocurrencies, deposit or withdraw a similar amount or stake through Bitstamp Earn.

The company has reported it has made the decision to charge this fee due to the costs of maintaining inactive accounts.

Bitstamp requested in April information from customers about the origin of their crypto assets. Users reported the exchange has suspended withdrawals for EU customers who have not verified the origin of deposits.
