Spotify, a digital music streaming service, is testing a new feature that would allow artists to put their non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on their profile pictures. According to Music Ally, select artists in the US can already check out the new feature, with DJ Steve Aoki and The Wombats appear to be the first to participate in the pilot.

Although no details were given so far, a Spotify spokesman said the company is running a test in which it will "help a small group of artists promote their existing third-party NFT offerings via their artist profiles."

"We routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences. Some of those tests end up paving the way for a broader experience and others serve only as an important learning."

It seems Spotify doesn't plan — at lest at the current stage — to monetize on the new feature as artists can put an NFT on their profiles at no costs and users can buy these assets on external marketplaces.

The move comes after Instagram began testing digital collectibles with a group of US creators and collectors who can now share NFTs on Instagram that they have created or bought.
