Australia intends to launch its first Bitcoin ETF on a trading platform next week, local publication Sydney Morning Herald has reported.

The regulator's chief risk officer, Hamish Treliven, has confirmed that ASX now has "a minimum number of clearing members, which means we are ready to go."

Cosmos Asset Management has beaten off local competitors VanEck, BetaShares and EFT Securities to issue the first Bitcoin ETF in Australia.

Last April 20, Treliven notified market participants of the agency's approval to start "preparing for a new product."

Thus, Cosmos Asset Management's Bitcoin ETF may begin trading on the CBOE stock exchange on April 27.

The Cosmos BTC ETF acts as an "equity fund" that invests in the Purpose Bitcoin ETF, which will be available for trading in Toronto.
