US Treasury Links Hackers of Axie Infinity to North Korea

The US Treasury has linked North Korean hackers known as Lazarus Group to a crypto address that was part of a massive $600+ million hack of Axie Infinity, a blockchain game made by Sky Mavis. The US government particularly listed an ETH address, which Sky Mavis named as the Ronin attacker in late March.

According to a blockchain forensic firm Chainalysis, Lazarus's address was involved in the Ronin hack, having received 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million in the USDC stablecoin from the Ronin Bridge smart contract during the attack, the firm revealed on Twitter.

As iHodl earlier reported, a sidechain called Ronin Network suffered a hacker attack in which $625 million in cryptocurrencies were stolen. Shortly after the attack, Sky Mavis raised $150 million in funding round led by Binance with participation from Animoca Brands, a16z, Dialectic, and Paradigm, to compensate victims of the hack.

The company said it will increase the validator group to 21 validators within the next three months. This will be a split between various stakeholders including partners, community members, and long-term allies, Sky Mavis added. The company added:
