The company said in a blog announcement that the proceeds will help it to create "new social entertainment exploring the connection between digital and physical worlds." Søren Thorup Sørensen, CEO of KIRKBI, says the investment reflects the firm's vision focused on trends that will impact the "future world that we and our children will live in."

"This investment will accelerate our engagement in the world of digital play, and we are pleased to be investing in Epic Games to support their continued growth journey, with a long-term focus toward the future metaverse," Sørensen added.

Epic's head, Tim Sweeney, added that the funding will accelerate the company's work to build the metaverse and create spaces "where players can have fun with friends, brands can build creative and immersive experiences and creators can build a community and thrive."

The funding comes a few days after the LEGO Group and Epic Games signed a long-term partnership to build the metaverse focused on kids. The gaming company said that the efforts will be aimed at building an immersive digital experience for kids of all ages.
