The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will start paying bonus to its fighters in cryptocurrency, Bloomberg has learned. According to the report, the organization will pay out bonuses in bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) to the top three fighters on every UFC pay-per-view event. The cryptocurrency company Crypto.com will reportedly act as an intermediate that will calculate the amount of bitcoin at a fixed US dollar amount. The first crypto prizes will be distributed at the mixed-martial arts promotion’s upcoming event in Jacksonville, Florida.
This is not the first time the UFC is looking at the crypto market. In February 2020, Dapper Labs, a company behind cryptocurrency app CryptoKitties, entered into a partnership with the UFC to collaborate on creating UFC-branded digital collectibles on Dapper Labs' Flow. In May last year, world's most popular mixed martial arts league announced plans to launch a fan token. Later, the organization eventually issued its own token, dubbed $UFC, on the Chiliz blockchain.
