PlayStation 5 Hybrid Processors Tested for Ethereum and TON Mining
Main page News, Mining

Hardware maker ASRock has used partially defective hybrid processors (APUs) from the PlayStation 5 console to create a mining rig, a user from Japan under the pseudonym KOMACHI_ENSAKA has announced.

According to him, the system is based on PlayStation 5 (Ariel/Oberon) SoC chips manufactured by AMD with a defective core processor.

Due to the fact that the device specifications do not specify a specific processor, experts assume the basic CPU functionality is retained in at least some of the APUs.

AMD has previously adapted the GPU-disabled PS5 APU for mainstream computers, calling it AMD 4700S.

The mining device manufactured by ASRock, the ASRock Mining Rig Barebone, includes 12 AMD BC-250 chips.

Overall system throughput is 610 MH/s; the hashrate of an APU is nearly 51 MH/s. According to available estimates, each chip can generate around $2 per day when mining Ethereum and TON at the same time.

The device is available for purchase in several European stores for €13,499.
