Meta (formerly Facebook) has just filed eight new trademark applications for its logo related to cryptocurrencies and virtual assets, attorney Michael Kondoudis has announced.

The filed applications reportedly include tokens, blockchain software, wallets, trading and exchange of virtual currencies.

The lawyer has said that "these filings reflect the company’s strategy for moving into the metaverse. Meta clearly has significant plans for the virtual economy that will drive it."

It must be noted that brands have recently become more active in seeking trademark protection in the digital world, The Block has reported.

In particular, during the first three months of 2022, the number of relevant applications has exceeded the number for all of 2021.

In February, McDonald's filed ten trademark applications in the field of virtual assets and metaverses, whereas Burger King did the same the following month.
