Bitcoin Price Falls 7% Dragged Down by Start of Russian Military Operations in Ukraine

The price of Bitcoin has fallen this morning to $35,000. At 09:17 CET time, the crypto is trading at $35,582.7 after registering a 7.01% drop over the last 24 hours.

The Bitcoin collapse has dragged the rest of the market down with it. Among the top 10 cryptos by market capitalization, Ethereum, BNB, XRP and Cardano have fallen more than 10%.

The price of Bitcoin has fallen sharply after Russian president Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Donbass. In a video message, Ukrainian president Volodymir Zelensky announced the country had put martial law into effect.

The Russian military is targeting Ukraine's military infrastructure, aviation, air defense facilities and military airfields. The Russian Defense Ministry claims nothing threatens the civilian population.
