El Salvador Says Bitcoin Legalization Has Boosted Tourism

El Salvador's minister of tourism, Morena Valdez, has said that since Bitcoin was legalized in the country as a means of payment in September last year, the flow of tourists has increased significantly.

According to Valdez:

"We conducted a survey to verify activity before and after accepting Bitcoin. The tourism sector grew in November and December by more than 30%."

She has assured the recovery in the segment has exceeded expectations, as the country received 1.4 million visitors, compared to the forecast of 1.1 million.

The introduction of cryptocurrencies has had an impact on the structure of the tourist flow. If before the bulk of tourists came from neighboring Central American countries, now up to 60% come from the United States, the minister has pointed out.

In addition, Valdez has also assured there has been an increase in tourism income:

"We planned 800 million dollars in foreign exchange, but we received 1.4 billion dollars".
