Netflix announced it has ordered a documentary series about Bitfinex hack and a married couple's alleged scheme to launder billions of dollars in bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin).

The company said in an announcement Chris Smith (who made FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, Tiger King) is set to direct the yet-to-be-named documentary series and Nick Bilton will serve as executive produce. No timetable was given though.
As iHodl earlier reported, the FBI arrested Ilya Lichtenstein, 34, and his wife, Heather Morgan, 31, in Manhattan over charges related to laundering cryptocurrency stolen from Bitfinex in 2016. As a result of the operation, the law enforcement seized over $3.6 billion in cryptocurrency.
Netflix also plans to premiere a documentary by Luke Sewell about the QuadrigaCX scandal dubbed "Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King." The movie — which is scheduled to be released this year — will tell the story of Gerard Cotten, the man behind cryptocurrency exchange who died while on honeymoon in India in 2018. According to his widow, Jennifer Robertson, Cotten was the only one who had access to the QuadrigaCX's cold storage, resulting in a loss of $250 million worth of cryptocurrencies.
