Russia Proposes to Cut Off Electricity Supply to Illegal Crypto Miners

The Russian parliament has sent the country's government proposals to regulate crypto mining, a local publication has reported with reference to the minutes of the meeting of the Energy Committee of Russia.

According to the publication, officials have proposed to allow energy retailers to cut off power supply to illegal miners.

In addition, among the proposals is the mandatory provision to such companies by Internet providers of information on the location of IP addresses from which cryptos are mined.

The Association of Guaranteed Suppliers and Energy Marketing Companies of Russia has previously put forward similar initiatives.

Among other things, it was proposed to prescribe in the rules of technical connection the obligation to indicate the purposes of electricity use and to introduce liability for violation of the rules of utility use.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Energy Committee Valery Seleznev said the proposals could also be used in the implementation of the roadmap for regulating the crypto industry.

In late January, Russia's central bank proposed to ban cryptocurrencies and their mining in the country.
