BlackRock to Launch an ETF Based on Crypto Companies Index

ETF provider iShares, part of investment firm BlackRock, has filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) an application to launch an ETF based on the NYSE FactSet Global Blockchain Technologies Index.

As per the filing, the Blockchain and tech ETF will include companies related to mining, its infrastructure and the trading of digital assets. It will also feature shares of blockchain companies and chipmakers.

The structure will not directly own cryptocurrencies or their derivatives. According to the filing:

"The NYSE FactSet Global Blockchain Technologies Index is a modified float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted equity index that measures the performance of equity securities issued by US and non-US companies that are involved in the development, innovation, and utilization of blockchain and crypto technologies."

BlackRock has previously ruled out launching its own crypto ETF in the near term.
