Twitter Blue Labs Rolls Out NFT Avatars Verification

Twitter Blue Labs, a premium subscription service, has launched early access to NFT profile pictures for users with iOS devices. Now, users can link their Ethereum wallets to Twitter accounts to verify non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as profile avatars.

However, it seems that Twitter relies on NFT marketplace OpenSea for its verification process via API. The social network supports MetaMask, Ledger Live, Rainbow, Argent and, Coinbase Wallet, and others.

"Setting up an NFT profile picture means people can associate your Twitter account with your connected wallet's public crypto wallet address," Twitter said on the website.

It remains unclear when Twitter plans to add support for Android devices and desktop. In November 2021, Twitter launched a new initiative focused on embracing the cryptocurrency market. According to Tess Rinearson, who leads the so-called Twitter Crypto team, the arm is working on the strategy "for the future of crypto at (and on) Twitter."

A spokesperson for Twitter said the social network giant is exploring ways to "incorporate decentralized technologies into our products and infrastructure." Initially, the team plans to explore payments and other options for people creating content to "earn crypto." Other details about the initiative remain undisclosed.
