Accomplices of Vienna 2020 Attack Used Binance: Report

A group of people assisting an Islamist gunman, who killed four civilians in Vienna in 2020, used Binance, Reuters has learned, citing German federal police.

According to the report Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) found that there were "indications" that the suspects "bought or sold an unspecified amount of cryptocurrency on Binance." One of the suspects reportedly used a bank account to carry out transactions with Binance.

It remains unclear though what cryptocurrency was purchased or sold on the exchange. However, the BKA said it sent request to Binance to get more information relating to the suspects in connection with "potential terrorist attack plans." As of press time, Binance has not made any official statement regarding the matter.

The Vienna attack began on November 2, 2020. An attacker — who was later killed by police — started shooting at people in six locations. Four civilians were killed in the attack and 23 others were injured, seven critically.
