Google Aims at Crypto, Hires PayPal Exec

Google has hired former PayPal executive, Arnold Goldberg, to lead its payments division with a new course focused on cryptocurrencies, Bloomberg has learned. Bill Ready, Google's President of Commerce, said that Goldberg will help the IT giant with its payments business, including cryptocurrencies.

While the Mountain View-based is not accepting cryptocurrencies for transactions, Ready says the cryptocurrency market is something the company pays "a lot of attention to."

"As user demand and merchant demand evolves, we will evolve with it," Ready added.

In September last year, Google Cloud entered into a multi-year partnership agreement with Dapper Labs, a Canadian blockchain startup, to support its Flow blockchain that supports over 50 applications, including non-fungible token (NFT) collections like NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties. The IT giant acts as a network operator to help Flow scale.
