Morgan Stanley's Fund Allocates 1% of AUM in Bitcoin Holdings

Morgan Stanley Europe Opportunity Fund reported holding 83,803 shares (~$5.14 million) of Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) as of October 31, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing. Thus, the fund allocated 1% of assets under management in bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) holdings. In the second and third quarters, the financial giant reported 58,116 and 28,289 GBTC shares, respectively.

Previously, Morgan Stanley initiated expansion of its new cryptocurrency research team with Sheena Shah, the foreign currency strategist. According to reports, Shah will help the New York-based bank with researches on cryptocurrencies' impact not only on equities, but also fixed income worldwide.

In June, the bank warned that financial institutions might lose up to 8% of customer deposits due to a digital euro. However, the bank's analysts noted that the estimation was based on "bear case" scenario, according to which, all euro area citizens above the age of 15 should have transferred ~$3,637 into an ECB-regulated digital wallet.
