The number of bitcoin mentions on Twitter jumped sharply as a result of several big events. In February, there was a surge in the popularity of bitcoin after the social network faced the spark of the so-called "laser eyes" flash mob. The participants put photos with laser eyes on their Twitter avatars and promised not to change it until bitcoin rose in price to $100,000. Later, Tesla stopped accepting bitcoins, and El Salvador recognized the cryptocurrency as legal tender just like the US dollar.
