US crypto mining company Marathon Digital Holdings has just signed a contract with Bitmain to purchase a "record number" of Bitcoin miners Antminer S19XP.

According to the agreement, the devices are expected to be delivered by Bitmain between July and December 2022.

The company expects that after the deployment of the new miners, the number of miners it owns will rise to 199,000 and that these will reach a cumulative hashrate of approximately 23.3 EH/s.

Marathon CEO Fred Thiel said:

"This growth represents more than a 600% increase from our current hash rate and a 75% increase from our prior projection of 13.3 EH/s by the middle of 2022."

This assures the company's business model allows it to invest in equipment rather than infrastructure, which has enabled it to place this large order.

Bitmain has stressed that Marathon "remains one of our most important customers."
