In an interview with The Verge, Reeves said the idea of the metaverse is "way older than" Facebook's Meta. He also revealed that his friend bought him cryptocurrency a "while back" but he prefers to hodl it. Reeves also laughed off the idea of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that can be "easily reproduced."

In November this year, Nifty's, a marketplace of NFTs, announced the sale of 100,000 unique avatars based on the Matrix universe in the form of NFTs. The avatars are made in a cooperation with Warner Bros. and Epic Games' MetaHuman Creator. In the first phase of the sale, users could buy the tokens with $50 for each NFT.

In the second phase, which is scheduled for Dec. 16, all buyers will be able to choose a "Blue Pill," which will keep their avatar in the Matrix, or a "Red Pill," which will transform the avatars into resistance fighters. It remains unclear though how the choice will impact the NFTs.
