BitPay, a bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) and cryptocurrency payments service, says merchants can now accept meme altcoin shiba inu (SHIB) for payments. BitPay CEO, Stephen Pair, says the altcoin community is "passionate about its coin and serious about giving those consumers places to spend SHIB."

"BitPay believes that the more community involvement from coin holders supports awareness and adoption helping to move the blockchain industry to pave the way for blockchain payments to disrupt the way consumers and businesses receive and spend funds," he added.

Earlier in November, AMC CEO, Adam Aron, "specifically" asked BitPay to list SHIB so that the international entertainment company could take the altcoin for online payments of movie tickets and concessions. The movie theater chain plans to start accepting SHIB in Q1, 2022. Besides SHIB, AMC already accepts payments for tickets in bitcoin, ether, litecoin and bitcoin cash.

Gemini Sparks Criticism Over Shiba Inu Listing

As iHodl reported, Ethereum founder, Vitalik Buterin, sent 90% of his remaining SHIB tokens to an inaccessible address and thus burned them. The tokens burned by the Ethereum co-founder valued at approximately $7 billion. Buterin explained his decision in a comment on the transaction on the blockchain.

Particularly, he promised to donate the remaining 10% of SHIB to charity as he had previously donated $1.5 billion in cryptocurrencies, including SHIB, to help India and medical development.
