Ex-Google CEO Joins Chainlink as Strategic Advisor

Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, has joined Chainlink Labs as a strategic advisor, the company said in a press release. The company says Schmidt will guide scaling strategy as Chainlink emerges to real-world data and systems. Besides Chainlink, the former Google CEO is also Co-Founder of Schmidt Futures and Chairman of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

"The launch of blockchains and smart contracts has demonstrated tremendous potential for the building of new business models, but it has become clear that one of blockchain's greatest advantages — a lack of connection to the world outside itself — is also its biggest challenge," said Schmidt.

In September, Google Cloud entered into a multi-year partnership agreement with Dapper Labs, a Canadian blockchain startup, to support its Flow blockchain. The Mountain View-based IT giant will act as a network operator to help Flow scale. The blockchain network already has over 50 applications, including non-fungible token (NFT) collections like NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties.
