Grayscale Investments, a cryptocurrency asset manager, has found that 26% of Americans own bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin), which is up 3% from 2020. The firm said in a report that the online survey of 1,000 US consumers was conducted by8 Acre Perspective between the ages of 25 and 64.

Almost 60% of this cohort prefers to invest in cryptocurrencies via a cryptocurrency trading app like eToro or Coinbase. Moreover, most of the investors are hodling, with approximately 66% of those who purchased bitcoin more a year ago still owning it today, Grayscale wrote.

Of the investors who have sold, 91% have sold at least some bitcoin at a profit. Grayscale notes the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization still accounts for 46% of the total value of crypto markets despite the the rise of decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In November, Morgan Stanley increased its position in the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) by acquiring 1,511,965 GBTC shares. The total sum of GBTC hodlings corresponds to 0.52% of the bank's assets under management.
