Waters is committed to protecting investors and consumers by holding tech giants accountable. In June, under her leadership, a crypto task force was created.

Waters has previously expressed her concern about the Diem Association (Libra Association) project on several occasions. In June 2019, the congresswoman demanded Facebook to suspend the development of its digital currency, and two months later presented a work plan for further study.

In 2020 Waters asked the administration of Joe Biden to withdraw the decisions of the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury of the US Treasury regarding cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.
