Discord, a platform for instant messaging, might be working on a new feature that would allow users to link their accounts with a cryptocurrency wallet called MetaMask. According to a tweet published by Discord's founder, Jason Citron, the company is also exploring linking wallets via WalletConnect, a web3 service that connects various blockchain networks.

While it remains unclear when Discord might open public access, the feature is currently at the pre-release stage. However, it seems not everyone liked the company's new initiative. The Reddit thread titled "Discord developers: please do not support NFTs" already has approximately 5,000 upvotes. Posted by Nyeogmi, the thread points out that most non-fungible tokens (NFTs) appear to have "little value and exist only to speculate on."

"As a message to Discord developers reading this thread: now is a good time to quit your job. I guarantee you would be happier than you are in your current role, where you just spent an entire sprint working on a feature your userbase universally hates," wrote Nyeogmi.

As of press time, Discord has not made any official statement regarding the boycott. It also unclear if the company plans to keep on with its new feature. Earlier in October, several reports noted that Reddit might be working on a new product related to the industry of NFTs. According to the new job post, the new hire will be responsible for building backend services for "millions of users to create, buy, sell and use NFT-backed digital goods."

Reddit is seeking a senior backend engineer with 5+ years backend development experience with multiple parts of the backend stack, from databases to networking to efficient computing. The candidate should also have experience with cryptocurrencies and NFTs.
