Fight for the Future, a non-profit advocacy group, alongside Enjin and other 27 companies have signed an open letter in which they have called on Valve to cease ban of blockchain-based games or products with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Steam. The companies say Web3 games make games not only decentralized, but also democratic and interactive.

The blockchain and NFT technologies present an "opportunity to streamline and modernize intellectual property rights in ways that would greatly benefit both independent creators and established corporations," the letter reads. President of Blockchain Game Alliance, Sebastien Borget, says Valve's move to prohibit crypto-related products is similar to ignore the "remarkable progress" the industry has achieved this year.
"We wish to invite an open dialogue with the people at Valve, as well as the broader mainstream gaming industry, to better understand their perspectives on the challenges ahead, and to determine how we can collaborate more effectively in future," Borget added.
The move comes shortly after Steam announced it will be banning all blockchain-related games as the service does not allow game items that could have real-world value. This is not the first time Steam battles with the cryptocurrency space. In 2018, the gaming platform known for housing an extensive range of computer games and developers came under fire after users found out a free game called Abstractism had been mining cryptocurrency without their knowledge.
