Facebook wants to change its name in order to be associated not only with the social network, but with the entire "metaverse" of its products, The Verge has reported citing sources.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to announce the name change at the annual conference, which will be held next October 28, however, according to the publication, this could happen earlier.

The new name is being kept secret, not even all members of senior management know about it. It is expected to be linked to Horizon, a virtual office application the company introduced back in August.

Following the rebranding, Facebook's blue logo will be positioned as one of many products from the parent company, which also owns WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus, The Verge reports.

Zuckerberg announced in July the start of work on a "metaverse" that will combine physical, augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
