Bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin), the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has jumped 6.2% to as much as $67,128 at BitMEX. The cryptocurrency has gained more than 101% this year with the whole market capitalization reaching the $2.8 trillion mark. Bitcoin's market capitalization has also reached a new high at $1.2 trillion.

Meanwhile, ether (ETH), has gained around 6.3% over 24 hours, reaching $4,013. Binance Coin (BNB) has jumped 2.3% in 24 hours, last trading at $495.43. Bitcoin has been on a bumpy road for investors since April this year as the cryptocurrency dropped as low as $28,157 after setting the previous record.
Bitcoin's surge comes after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the first US bitcoin futures exchange traded fund (ETF) from ProShares — Bitcoin Strategy ETF. The company launched trading on Oct. 19 at the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker "BITO."
