El Salvador's official BTC wallet Chivo registered last October 15 24,076 remittances totaling $3,069,761, the country's president Nayib Bukele has said.

According to him, users are depositing far more US dollars in Chivo than they are withdrawing.

When the law legalizing BTC came into force, 200 ATMs were installed in El Salvador that allow converting the leading crypto to dollars and vice versa.

The country's authorities also distributed $30 in Bitcoin among residents who downloaded the wallet. A week after the legalization, the registration of new users in Chivo was suspended due to technical problems.

Last September 15, a group of protesters against the legalization of the cryptocurrency in El Salvador set fire to a BTC ATM.

In the same month, Bukele said that 2.1 million residents of the country "actively use" the crypto wallet.
