Stripe Relaunches Crypto Initiative

Payments company Stripe has announced it is assembling a new cryptocurrency-focused team so that the company can create "crypto-enabled experiences," according to published job listings. The firm is looking for a staff engineer to build the core components that Stripe is needed to "support crypto use cases."

"You will work across everything from web/mobile UIs to backend, and payments and identity systems. Many businesses and users already rely on and trust in Stripe. This gives us a massive opportunity to be at the forefront of a new wave of innovation," the listing says.

The move comes a few years after Stripe had suspended support for bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) payments as the cryptocurrency had become not convenient for payments for a variety of reasons. In February this year, former Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, joined Stripe's board of directors. Carney's task on this role is to the company with his experience of global financial systems and governance.
