China Blocks Crypto Analytics Services CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap

Crypto analytics services CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap are no longer available to residents of China, The Block has reported.

The publication's analysts have concluded using the Greatfire.org tool that China's Great Firewall has blocked access to these popular services. It is not known when the blocking came into effect.

The information has been confirmed by 8BTC.

CoinGecko representatives have reported they have not taken any measures on their side to restrict Chinese residents' access to the service.

Last September 24, China's upcoming crackdown on the crypto sector became known. The National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China noted the negative impact of mining on the environment and its "negligible" contribution to the country's economy.

Shortly thereafter, Binance and Huobi suspended the registration of new Chinese users. In addition, the world's largest pool for Ethereum mining, SparkPool, has announced it is ceasing to offer its services to Chinese users and shortly thereafter announced the suspension of its services.
