Mexican Crypto Exchange Bitso to Service El Salvador's Digital Wallet

Mexican cryptocurrency exchange Bitso has become a core service provider for Chivo, El Salvador's official digital wallet for bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin), Bloomberg reports. The exchange with over 2 million user base will reportedly facilitate transactions in US dollars with the help of Silvergate Bank.

In May, Bitso raised $250 million in a Series C round of funding round, led by Tiger Global and Coatue, TechCrunch reports. The funding round brings the company's total valuation up to $2.2 billion and made the exchange Latin America's first billion-dollar crypto trading platform.

The partnership with Chivo comes as El Salvador has officially legalized bitcoin as legal tender. The country's president, Nayib Bukele, announced the purchase of 400 bitcoins by the country's authorities as part of a new $150 million fund approved by the country's authorities aimed at guaranteeing the exchange between bitcoin and US dollars.
