Ontario Financial Regulator Blacklists Tether from Trading Platforms

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has lister tether (USDT) into its list of prohibited assets on registered cryptocurrency trading platforms. While the agency has not clarified why it blacklisted USDT, the limitations have already being imposed on Canadian firms Wealthsimple and Coinberry.

For Coinberry the new guidelines come as the company has become the first pure-play registered crypto trading platform in Canada. This registration allows it to offer Canadians crypto-related products and services. As of press time, Tether has not made an official comment on the matter.

The tightening comes a week after the regulator filed charges against Aux Cayes Fintech Co. Ltd, the operator of OKEx, over violating securities law. The agency said the firm violated Ontario securities law and did not cooperate fully with enforcement staff.
