Twitter-backed initiative now has a cryptocurrency expert to accelerate the effort. The decentralization-focused project called Blucksky now includes Jay Graber, the former Zcash developer. She will lead the initiative and is currently focused on hiring and setting up the group of experts, a spokesperson for Bluesky told Reuters.

Bluesky is expected to relieve companies of the sole responsibility for being centralized curators of content. The initiative was first announced in late 2019. Back then, Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey said that architects, engineers and designers will "develop an open and decentralized standard for social media that would help better control abusive and misleading information on its platform."
In July this year, Square, an American financial services firm backed by Twitter, announced that it will create its own hardware wallet and service to make bitcoin custody "more mainstream." Square has already begun putting together a team to develop the wallet. It will be led by Max Giese, Hardware Security Lead at Square.
