Starting from early August 2021, Microsoft Defender will be blocking all the potentially unwanted applications (PUA), Microsoft said. The list of these apps includes "cryptomining software" and "torrent software."

The Redmond-based tech corporation first included the new feature in the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. However, the feature is turned on by the default starting from August 2021.
"If you would like to turn it off, or back on, for any reason you can do so by going to the Windows Security app > App & browser control > Reputation-based protection," the corporation said.
In July last year, Microsoft listed India among top five countries that were most affected by cryptocurrency mining attacks. The analysis of the Indian crypto market took 12 months from January to December 2019. Microsoft also said that Asia Pacific continued to experience a higher-than-average encounter rate for malware and ransomware attacks – 1.6 and 1.7 times higher than the rest of the world, respectively.
