As part of the program, the Vienna-based fintech company will put €10 million over the next two years and add 30 developers by the end of 2021.
"This innovative hub will focus on building a next generation investment platform where engineers will aim to leverage the possibilities of state-of-the-art blockchains," the exchange said in the press release.
Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad, Bitpanda CPO, says that the idea behind the hub is to bring blockchain engineers together and empower them to "build the investment platform that is revolutionizing the financial industry."
In March this year, Bitpanda raised an additional $170 million in a Series B fundraising round, which brings the company’s valuation to $1.2 billion. The exchange attracted investments from Thiel's Valar Ventures firm and unnamed partners from DST Global. The valuation made Bitpanda the first "unicorn" startup in Austria. Bitpanda CEO, Eric Demuth, said the exchange plans to become a "pan-investment platform, not just a crypto broker."
