The e-commerce giant is also exploring whether it should launch its own token for 2022 or not, says the sources. The source also added that the initiative is coming from Jeff Bezos himself.
"This is not just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future – this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work," the source added.
According to reports, Amazon might later add support for ether (ETH), cardano (ADA) and bitcoin cash (BCH). In total, Amazon might list approximately eight of the most popular cryptocurrencies. The City A.M.'s source also emphasized that the company has been working on adding support for cryptocurrencies since 2019.
The move comes after Amazon posted a new opening according to which, the company is seeking a digital currency and blockchain product lead with at least 10+ years of experience in product or program management. The successful candidate will become part of the Amazon Payments Acceptance & Experience team, focused on developing digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap.
