Dorsey reiterated that he considers bitcoin to be the best candidate for the role of the "native currency of the Internet":

"If the internet has a native currency, a global currency, we are able to able to move so much faster with products such as Super Follows, Commerce, Subscriptions, Tip Jar, and we can reach every single person on the planet because of that instead of going down a market-by-market-by-market approach."

The Twitter CEO also noted that the social network will not be the only service aimed at introducing cryptocurrencies. He recalled that Facebook can implement the digital currency too:

"There is an obvious need for this, and appreciation for it. And I think that an open standard that is native to the Internet is the right way to go, which is why my focus and our focus eventually will be on bitcoin."

Earlier in July, Dorsey announced he intends to create a new bitcoin-focused business based on payments company Square. According to him, the company plans to launch "an open developer platform with the sole goal of making it easy to create non-custodial, permissionless, and decentralized financial services."
