Bitcoin.org, a popular BTC information resource reportedly created by Satoshi Nakamoto, has been hacked.

According to Bitcoin.org's operator, known by the nickname Cobra, the site has been victim to "an absolutely massive DDoS attack." The attackers have vowed not to stop their actions until they receive a ransom in Bitcoin. Cobra has written:

"I don't think I've been this offended in a while. Ungrateful scum. Back in the day you could put up a reasonable fight against most DDoS attacks. Now they just down you at will. There is no ‘fight’ anymore, you go down and stay down until they leave you alone."

Cobra has also said he will never resort to services like Cloudflare, which protect against DDoS attacks by relaying customer requests from the external network to one or more servers logically located on the internal network.

Hackers have previously attacked crypto exchanges, including to prevent users from accessing them during sharp market movements, however, they had never put their attention on Bitcoin.org, which only contains information about Bitcoin and has no commercial purpose. A similar attack on Bitcoin.org took place in December 2020. As a result, users temporarily lost the ability to download a crypto client using one of the main sources.

The Bitcoin.org domain was registered on August 18, 2008.
