The bad actors infected many VSA servers that are used to remotely control computers. REvil initially asked most of its victims to pay $45,000 in the monero (XMR) cryptocurrency to unlock the infected computers. Cybersecurity firm ESET claims at least hundreds of companies around the world have been hit in the attack.
