Hong Kong's Pro-Democracy Tabloid to Avoid Censorship with Blockchain

Hong Kong's activists have immortalized pro-democracy tabloid Apple Daily on blockchain, after the local government banned the news outlet over national security concerns, Reuters reports. The articles have been uploaded on a decentralized file storage platform called ARWeave. One of the activists who uploaded the articles says he decided to do so not because he loves Apple Daily.

"It is what needs to be done. I never thought that Apple Daily would disappear so quickly," 21-year-old anonymous activist told Reuters.

Hong Kong to Restrict Crypto Exchanges to Non-Pro Traders

The so-called Hong Kong national security law was passed by the local authorities on June 30, 2020. According to news outlets, the law criminalizes secession of Hong Kong, subversion against the Chinese government. The law allows the local government to request the blocking or removal of content it deems subversive or secessionist.
